Asian Lettuce Wraps


Mid week quick dinners need not be a bore. Basic mixture of onion, ginger and garlic combined with soy sauce, chili sauce and maple syrup make for a delicous quick dinner! Dress it up with your favourite toppings.

Use your favourite lettuce (Romaine, Iceberg, Boston Bibb)

 



Serves: 4-6
Ready In: 20 minutes
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

1 tbsp (15 mL) sesame oil

1/2 cup (125 mL) finely chopped onion

2 tbsp (30 mL) minced ginger

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 lb (454 g) ground turkey, chicken, beef, pork or combo of favourites

2 cups (500 mL) bean sprouts

1/4 cup (50 mL)  chicken broth

2 tbsp (30 mL) soy sauce

1 tbsp (15 mL) garlic chili sauce

1 tbsp (15 mL) pure maple syrup or honey

fresh lime juice (optional)

To Serve: (use your favourites but look to add colour too)

Lettuce leaves (romaine, iceberg, Boston bibb)

diced cucmbers and peppers

minced purple cabbage

bean sprouts

diced avocadoes

grated carrots

finely chopped green onions

minced cilantro

hoisin sauce

sriracha sauce

 



Cooking Instructions:

In large frying pan, heat sesame oil and saute onion, ginger and garlic for 2 minutes or until softened; add ground meat of choice breaking up and cooking thoroughly; about 5 minutes. Stir in bean sprouts.

Combine broth, soy sauce, chili sauce and maple syrup; add to meat mixture and stir until sprouts are wilted and liquid is somewhat reduced. Transfer to serving bowl with spoon and serve with lettuce leaves and desired toppings! Don't forget lots of napkins.
