March is nutrition month and what better way to celebrate it than to give your body a thourough cleaning just like you do your cupboards and house! The best way to rid of toxic waste and get your body working at its most efficient potential is to introduce raw, freshly made juices into your diet.
Juicing has become a popular trend over the passed couple of years, thanks to juice bars popping up all over North America and more awareness has been brought to your health. Jucing benefits range from full-body detox, improved digestion, increased energy, mental stamina, clearer skin, and has even been known to enhance time spent in the bedroom!...sleep among other things ;) When making juice with fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs, you are creating a drink that is super-charged with live enzymes, phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals. It is different than buying juice at the grocery store because when you make your own juice, you are drinking it in it's raw, most potent state. Store bought juice has been pasturized, which means that it has been heated at high temperatures giving it a longer shelf life, but that also means that it has been stripped of all it's natural vitamins and minerals and the live ezymes have died off. Also, extracting the fiber from your juice means that your body does not have to expend any energy digesting the juice and rather your cells immediately absorb all of the raw energy and its benefits. Wowza!
Tips on Juicing
- wash all of your produce right when you get home from the grocery store. Meal prep = one less step!
- make a big batch of juice to last you throughout the day. When storing you juice, make sure to keep it in a glass jar or container and fill it to the very top before covering. This will help save your juice from oxidization and make it last longer.
- keep your juicer on your counter top. This will be your visual reminder to juice every morning!
- if you don't have a juicer, blend your ingredients in a blender with a little bit of water. Then strain it through a sieve or cheese cloth. And voila, you have fresh, smooth juice.
- keep trying out different combos of fruits, veggies, and herbs and make sure to write down your favourite. Not only ne we want juice to be good for your body, but your taste buds as well!
